With student union vouchers and community information provided, discount gym memberships offered and volunteer vacancies promoted, students can now prove that it’s not all work and no play at Kidderminster Academy.

Local organisations attended a Freshers Fair to help first and second years make the most of their time as further education students.  

Deputy Campus Manager at the Academy, Martine Owens said: “While classroom and independent study are important, we also encourage our students to pursue activities outside their learning environment; whether it’s socialising with others, being part of a student body or undertaking part time volunteering or employment.   “Lots of activities take place on campus and in the surrounding area that our students can be involved in to enrich their college experience and enhance their CVs.And of course give them the chance to have some fun!”  

First year Academy students, Victoria Law and Kandace Saunders were keen to collect some discount vouchers and find out more how local charities, community groups and businesses were keen to work with local young people.  

“I live in Birmingham so I’ve now had the chance to find out more about what goes on in the area,” said fashion and retail student, Kandace.   “I spoke to some charity and community organisations, which I probably wouldn’t have thought of doing if it hadn’t been for the fair,” added Victoria, who also studies fashion. “My hobbies are based around making products and garments, so it’s good that we’re being encouraged to think about doing things that aren’t all connected to our courses.”
