Fundraising blitz at The Academy at Kidderminster
A 1940’s-themed charity evening marked the end of a successful first term for students from the Academy at Kidderminster. £1,344.83 was raised during ‘Putting on the Blitz’; a dinner organised and hosted by the students in aid of Help for Heroes.
“The event was the students’ first real opportunity to showcase to their families, friends and Academy supporters how far they have embraced their learning and training here,” commented, Director of the Academy, Jane Smith. “Some excellent collaborative working took place between different groups of students so that plans for a three-course meal, catwalk show, entertainment and fundraising stalls were coordinated ahead of an incredibly successful event.
“The staff were all extremely proud of them.”
Over 100 guests attended ‘Putting on the Blitz’ including the Mayor of Kidderminster, John Aston and Wyre Forest Councillor, Julian Phillips.
Business and Entrepreneurship students produced promotional material and sold tickets and gifts during the evening, while hospitality and culinary arts students prepared and served food. A ‘make do and mend’ wartime inspired catwalk show was the work of fashion and retail students. The technical side of the evening was managed by interactive media and live production students as well as learners studying apps design courses in the Kidderminster Academy’s Samsung Experience.
