Party Conference Serves Up Work Opportunities For Students
Hospitality students at Kidderminster Academy completed one of their most high profile work experience placements to date at the Conservative Party conference. The students spent three days at Hyatt Regency Birmingham taking on roles in the kitchen, bar and in room service as well as in event management. Many of them were offered part time jobs because of their enthusiasm.
Lecturer, Sarah Billet said: “The students jumped at the chance to help out at the conference’s fringe events which were taking place at the hotel. It gave them full exposure to the fast-paced environment and high service standards these events involve.
“They all learned an incredible amount from shadowing the hotel’s staff and working on their own. The best thing of all is that so many of them will be back at the hotel as casual staff, meaning their careers have now taken off and will thrive from now on.”
Famous faces the students spotted at the hotel included the foreign secretary, Boris Johnson and health secretary, Jeremy Hunt.
Student, Luke Sinden added: “Working at the hotel confirmed for me that this is the career I want. The hotel environment is amazing because there are so many different things going on at the same time. I felt privileged to be there.”
