Fashion workshop's a piece of cake for local students

Students from Stourport High School enjoyed a cutting edge fashion experience after attending a workshop at Kidderminster Academy. 

17 Year 10 students took part in a series of fashion design and display activities as a way of raising awareness of industry careers and courses on offer at the Weavers Wharf-based Academy.

Sue Timms, Head of Schools Services at Birmingham Metropolitan College said: "The fashion workshop encouraged students to think and work like industry professionals by dressing mannequins, sketching and designing outfits.  They also used their sewing skills to produce a cupcake-shaped accessory made of felt.

She continued: "Encouraging young people to explore different career paths through practical activities makes them better prepared for the world of work and more knowledgeable about the industries they will represent in the future."

Stourport High School teacher, Jody Colclough added: "This workshop's been an amazing experience for our students who wouldn't normally experience this kind of course and learning environment. 

"They've all really enjoyed themselves.  It's given them the opportunity to try out potential, viable career opportunities in fashion."

A second group of Year 10 students participated in a Samsung electronics workshop at the Academy, which involved them creating a transistor switch nightlight and learning more about Samsung hardware.
