LAW AND LEGAL STUDIES
We live within a legal framework and the law governs our conduct in society. Almost every day we are affected by the law - our behaviour, our conduct and even when we buy something we make a contract with the provider to pay for the goods we are buying. The practical legal courses at the Academy will give learners a good understanding of the law of the land. During their studies, students will take part in legal debate, visit legal institutions and gain insights into different types of law.
During their studies, learners will understand the meaning of law, its role its purpose and key features of different areas of law. These legal courses prepare students well for further study or for gaining meaningful employment.
This one year course will give students an understanding of the operation of the English Legal System. Students will be introduced to legal concepts of the system, and will learn about the distinction between criminal and civil law and the way the criminal justice system operates in England and Wales. Units studied will include:

• Police and their Powers
• Legal Requirements for Business Formation
• Criminal Law and Procedure
• Aspects of Consumer Protection Law and Practice
This two year course provides learners with an understanding of the different types of law, the people and courts involved in resolution of legal disputes and the terminology used by legal practitioners. Students will learn the meaning of law, its role and purpose and the key features of different areas of law such as criminal and civil and will investigate characteristics of each of the areas, along with understanding the roles and responsibilities of the personnel involved in the administration of the law. The modular-based one year course gives students an insight into legal terminology and a
basic understanding of legal issues and will provide a broad range of legal training for
people employed, or seeking employment in the legal profession. The aim of the Legal
Secretaries’ syllabus is to develop a number of inter-related skills to ensure students can
provide a high level of support to Solicitors, Barristers or other legal personnel. This is a
recognised Legal Secretaries/Administrators qualification and is considered the benchmark
The Legal Secretaries Level 3 programme is now considered the benchmark for those
aspiring to, or working in, a legal environment as secretaries, personal assistants or
administrators. The ILEX Diploma ensures that potential legal administrators are trained to
advanced level, achieving qualifications in all IT packages.
